Sound that is generated by the unsteady motion of a gas and its interaction with surrounding surfaces. Aerodynamic sound or noise may be pleasant, such as the sound generated by a flute, or unpleasant, such as the noise of an aircraft on landing or takeoff, or the impulsive noise of a helicopter in descending or forward flight. The typical human ear can detect a great range of sounds. A logarithmic scale, called the decibel (dB) scale, is used to describe the sound pressure level (SPL). The sound pressure level is given by the equation below, <br> <center>[[File:loadBinary.aspx.gif

The temperature at which an ideal gas would exert no pressure. The Kelvin scale of temperatures is defined in terms of the triple point of water, T3=273.16° (where the solid, liquid, and vapor phases coexist) and absolute zero. Thus, the Kelvin degree is 1/273.16 of the thermodynamic temperature of the triple point. Temperature is measured most simply via the constant-volume ideal-gas thermometer, in which a small amount of gas is introduced (in order to limit the effect of interactions between molecules) and then sealed off. The gas pressure P referenced to its value at the triple point P(T3) is measured, and temperature T may be inferred from the following equation. <center>[[File:sbs-mh-001400MF0010.gif

The time rate of change of velocity. Since velocity is a directed or vector quantity involving both magnitude and direction, a velocity may change by a change of magnitude (speed) or by a change of direction or both. It follows that acceleration is also a directed, or vector, quantity. If the magnitude of the velocity of a body changes from υ1 ft/s to υ2 ft/s in <i>t</i> seconds, then the average acceleration <i>a</i> has a magnitude given by the following equation. <center>[[File:sbs-mh-002500MF0010.gif

“Hyperspectral” refers to the many wavelength bands that are characteristic of a remote sensing spectral data set. With earlier remote sensing systems, data were acquired in four to seven spectral bands. Airborne and space-borne hyperspectral systems, or imaging spectrometers, can simultaneously acquire data in hundreds of spectral bands. Because of the increased information content of the data acquired by hyperspectral systems, many more applications can be addressed by this remote sensing technique.

<i>Citrus medica</i>, a species of true citrus. The plant has a long and interesting history, being the first contact between citrus, which came from the Far East, and western Judaeo-Christian civilization. A citron, the Etrog, was the “hadar” or “goodly fruit” offering at the ancient Jewish Feast of the Tabernacles. At the time of the first Jewish revolt against Rome in <small>A</small>.<small>D.</small> 66–70, the rebels minted their own coins with the Etrog substituting for Nero's imperial visage.
