Company Profile:
McGraw Hill Financial, Inc. is an American publicly traded corporation headquartered in Rockefeller Center in New York City. Its primary areas of business are financial, publishing, and business services.
The evaluation of performance, from the perspectives of both developers and users, of complex systems of hardware and software. Modern computer-based information systems have become increasingly complex because of networking, distributed computing, distributed and heterogeneous databases, and the need to store large quantities of data. People are relying increasingly on computer systems to support daily activities. When these systems fail, significant breakdowns may ensue.

The extraction and refining of nickel from its ores. Nickel's properties of strength, toughness, and resistance to corrosion have been used to advantage in alloys since ancient times. Paktong, similar to modern nickel silver, was used in the sixteenth century in China, and early weapons were often fashioned from tough, nickel-bearing meteoric iron. A. F. Cronstedt first isolated nickel as an element in 1751, and in 1804 H. T. Richter prepared it in relatively pure form.

The expanding universe is described by the Friedman-Lemaître cosmological model. This elegant and simple theory, derived independently by A. Friedman in 1924 and G. E. Lemaître in 1927, predicted the expansion of the universe that was observed by E. P. Hubble in 1929. According to this model, usually referred to as the big bang theory, the rate of deceleration of a sufficiently large shell of matter in the universe is determined by the total mass contained within the shell.

States in neighboring nuclear isobars that have the same total angular momentum, parity, and isotopic spin. They also have nearly identical nuclear structure wave functions except for the transformation of one or more neutrons into an equivalent number of protons, which occupy the same single-particle states as the neutrons. Analog states (or isobaric analog states, IAS) have been observed throughout the periodic table, indicating that isotopic spin is a good quantum number.
Industry:Science
The fallout of water drops or frozen particles from the atmosphere. Liquid types are rain and drizzle; frozen types are snow, hail, small hail, ice pellets (also called ice grains or, in the United States, sleet), snow pellets (graupel, soft hail), snow grains, ice needles, and ice crystals. In England, sleet is defined as a mixture of rain and snow or melting snow. Deposits of dew, frost (rime), and moisture collected from fog are occasionally also classed as precipitation.

The development of agriculture during the last 2000 years, combined with technological advances in the past 500 years, have enabled humans to permanently convert large areas from natural ecosystems into mosaics of monoculture cropland interspersed with remnant natural habitats. In both North and South America, the written notes of the first explorers and settlers provide evidence that the native New World inhabitants maintained extensive landscapes by using fire and agriculture.

The arenaceous rocks (arenites) include all those clastic sedimentary rocks whose particle sizes range from 2 to 0.06 mm, or if silt is included, to 0.004 mm. Some arenites are composed primarily of carbonate particles, in which case they are called calcarenites and grouped with the limestones. Some oolitic iron ores and glauconite beds are properly classified as arenites. But the vast majority of arenites are commonly called sandstones, and the two words are almost synonymous.

Techniques used to determine that pharmaceuticals conform to specified standards of identity, strength, quality, and purity. Conformance to these standards assures pharmaceuticals which are safe and efficacious, of uniform potency and purity, and of acceptable color, flavor, and physical appearance. Pharmaceuticals are medicinal products which are prescribed by medical doctors and dispensed through pharmacies and hospitals. They are usually taken orally or by parenteral injection.
Industry:Science
The branch of mathematics which studies arrangements of elements (usually a finite number) into sets under certain prescribed constraints. Problems combinatorialists attempt to solve include the enumeration problem (how many such arrangements are there?), the structure problem (what are the properties of these arrangements and how efficiently can associated calculations be made?), and, when the constraints become more subtle, the existence problem (is there such an arrangement?).
Industry:Science
The dimensionless quantity <i>U</i>(<i>gL</i>)−½, where <i>U</i> is a characteristic velocity of flow, <i>g</i> is the acceleration of gravity, and <i>L</i> is a characteristic length. The Froude number can be interpreted as the ratio of the inertial to gravity forces in the flow. This ratio may also be interpreted physically as the ratio between the mean flow velocity and the speed of an elementary gravity (surface or disturbance) wave traveling over the water surface.
