dipolar aprotic solvent

A solvent with characteristically high polarity and low reactivity, that is, a solvent having a sizable permanent dipole moment that cannot donate labile hydrogen atoms to form strong hydrogen bonds; examples include acetonitrile, dimethyl sulfoxide, and hexamethylphosphoric triamide.
