As defined in the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe, an armored vehicle based on the same chassis as, and externally similar to, an armored personnel carrier, which does not have a cannon or gun of 20 millimeters caliber or greater and which has been constructed or modified in such a way as not to permit the transportation of a combat infantry squad. The Treaty excludes armored personnel carrier ambulances from this definition.
