Progress in programming languages is driven by the discovery of new design methods that provide modularity where existing approaches fail. Aspect-oriented programming introduces a new linguistic mechanism to centralize common code that is scattered among different modules, known as crosscutting concerns (program features). The modular unit that implements crosscutting concerns is called an aspect. For example, security code scattered among different program modules could be located in one place called the security aspect.
