auditory processing

The amplitude and frequency of most sounds change rapidly over time. These changes are crucial for auditory perception and communication. Indeed, it is the pattern of these dynamic changes that conveys information in speech and music. For example, a note struck on a piano may be played backwards in time, thus reversing its dynamic pattern. It is no longer perceived as a piano note; it sounds organlike.
