biotic recovery after mass extinctions

Mass extinctions have become a major focus of research within the geological sciences during the past two decades, with much attention focusing on the causes of these events. However, it is only recently that the nature of the aftermath and recovery intervals following these biotic crises has attracted interest. Such studies are relevant to our understanding of the long-term impact of human activities on global biodiversity and modern ecosystem response to major environmental perturbations.
