Electric power systems involve the generation, transmission, and distribution of electric energy. The transmission of generated electric energy is performed at higher voltages to minimize losses on transmission lines. Closer to load centers, energy needs to be transformed to a voltage level suitable for end users. Substations are nodes in the power system where this transformation takes place.
