graph-based intelligence analysis

An intelligence analyst's job is to answer policymakers' questions on a given subject. The questions may be broad and open-ended (for example: What economic factors shape the foreign policy of another country?) or they may be very specific (for example: Is a terrorist planning to strike a particular target?). Answering these questions often requires the analyst to predict future events. There are thousands of pieces of information available on each subject, and they invariably contain incomplete and contradictory evidence on the situation. Making reliable predictions with limited and contradictory evidence is an incredibly challenging task. Many analysts are turning to new graph-based analysis approaches to help them better make predictions. These new approaches are an interdisciplinary combination of mathematical graph theory, anthropology, and sociology.
