Special refractory compositions have been made by sintering mixtures of HfO₂and TiO₂in various proportions. The melting point of these sintered bodies was approx. 2,200 degrees C; there appeared to be a phase change at about 1,850 degrees C. Some of the compositions had negative thermal expansions.
