immunoglobulin genes

The genes encoding the genetic information to make antibodies (immunoglobulins) of different specificities and classes. Specificity is encoded in the variable region of the antibody, which is generated by assembling gene segments through a process called rearrangement. Biological activity of an antibody is established through a process called class switching in the constant part of the antibody.
