intelligent collaborative agents

Human agents, such as travel agents, insurance agents, and real-estate agents, are common. The Agency Theory in economics proposes that complex organizations must employ representatives (agents) to supervise and manage the organization's operations. Such agents operate on behalf of their organizations and interact with clients to accomplish specific economic goals, for instance, planning travel, issuing insurance policies, or executing realty transactions. With the increasing influence of information technologies on economic activities, artificial agents have begun to assume a similar role. Artificial, computer-based agents also operate as intermediaries in complex organizations and perform their functions with specific goals. They are called intelligent because they are part of artificial intelligence and their intelligence can be designed by their programmer.
