Free-living and parasitic animals belonging to the order Acarina, class Arachnida (with spiders). Mites may infest plant crops, reducing their harvest. They may also infest plant tissue culture work areas and incubation facilities in search of sugars, and so contaminate culture vessels and spread bacteria and fungi.
