Movement of signals or cues, presumably chemical, among individual plants or plant parts. These chemical cues are caused by damage to plant tissues or other stresses and stimulate physiological changes in the undamaged “receiving” plant or tissue. Communication among plants often involves induced plant defenses, which are chemicals produced actively by an individual plant in response to attack by insects or disease agents.
