schedules of chemicals

Collectively refers to the three lists of toxic chemicals and precursor chemicals monitored under the Chemical Weapons Convention. The three lists are referred to individually as Schedule 1, Schedule 2, and Schedule 3.

Schedule 1 Chemicals have been developed, produced, stockpiled or used as chemical weapons (CW) or are chemicals that are precursors to CW. These chemicals have little or no industrial purpose.

Schedule 2 Chemicals are divided into two sub-lists. One list includes toxic chemicals that could pose a significant risk to the objectives of the Chemical Weapons Convention but are not used solely in the production of CW. The second list contains chemicals that are potential precursors for CW.

Schedule 3 Chemicals are “dual-use” chemicals that have been used as CW or are CW precursors but are produced and used in large quantities for non-CW purposes.
