striped stem borer
The adult lays its eggs on the basal half of the leaves. The eggs hatch in about 5 days. The larva has three dorsal and two brownish abdominal stripes. The moth emerges after 5 days of pupation. The moth is straw-colored to light brown with silvery scales and several black dots at the tip of the forewing. The hindwing is yellowish-white. The moth lives for about 5 days. This stem borer has a life cycle of about 40 days. Scientific name: Chilo suppressalis.
