strong nuclear interactions

One of the fundamental physical interactions, which acts between a pair of hadrons. Hadrons include the nucleons, that is, neutrons and protons; the strange baryons, such as lambda (Λ) and sigma (Σ); the mesons, such as pion (π) and rho (ρ); and the strange meson, kaon (K). The nature of the interaction is determined principally through observations of the collision of a hadron pair. From this it is found that the interaction has a short range of about 10−15 m (10−13 in.) and is by far the dominant force within this range, being much larger than the electromagnetic interaction, which is next in magnitude. The strong interaction conserves parity and is time-reversal-invariant.
