tin metallurgy

The extraction of tin from its ores and its subsequent refining and preparation for use. Most tin concentrates are primarily cassiterite (SnO2), the naturally occurring oxide of tin. These are comparatively easy to reduce by using carbon at high temperatures. However, this operation differs from the smelting of most common metals because retreatment of the slag is necessary to obtain efficient metal recovery.
